Seminoles Come Back to Beat Jacksonville 12-6

FSU starts slowly but wins big after the bats wake up.

In a game that didn't start off especially well, Florida State got production from the latter part of the lineup to beat Jacksonville 12-6. Starting pitcher Peter Miller gave up 5 runs on 6 hits with 3 walks in two innings to start the game. Kenny Burkhead came on to pitch the third and gave up another run. This made it 6-3 Jacksonville through three innings. Billy Strode came in and pitched two excellent innings. He gave up no runs, no hits, 1 walk, and struck out 5. Bryant Holtmann came in and gave up no runs, 1 hit, and had 2 strikeouts. He is your winning pitcher as Florida State got the bats going late. Gage Smith and Jameis Winston both pitched one inning of scoreless baseball.

Florida State started off the game with 3 straight walks and scored 2 runs in the first inning, but found themselves down 5-2 going into the top of the third inning. Florida State and Jacksonville traded runs in the third to make it 6-3. The Seminoles pulled within one after a two run homerun by John Sansone in the sixth. Florida State tied and then took the lead in the seventh inning and never looked back adding five more insurance runs in the ninth inning. Ben DeLuzio and Josh Delph both hit RBI triples in the ninth. DeLuzio, John Nogowski, and Brett Knief had two RBIs. Sansone had a game high three RBIs. D.J. Stewart was on base four times with two doubles. He scored three times. Justin Gonzalez also scored three times after reaching base three times via walks.

Florida State improves to 4-0 on the season and will host Georgia in a three game series starting on Friday at 4 PM. Georgia is 1-2 on the season after dropping the first series to Georgia Southern.
