Florida State Evens Series with Miami

Florida State scored four runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back on their way to a 10-2 victory behind 6 2/3 strong innings from Brandon Liebrandt.

Florida State scored four runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back on their way to a 10-2 victory. Miami started the game off with a run in the top of the first, but Florida State was able to respond in the bottom half of the inning. After loading the bases on three straight walks the Seminoles were unable to push any runs across with the next two batters. First baseman John Nogowski doubled with two outs to get the first two runs of the day for Florida State. Jose Brizuela followed that up with a two RBI single and the Seminoles held a 4-1 lead going into the 2nd inning.

"It set the tone of the game," starting pitcher Brandon Liebrandt said. "Anytime that you walk the bases loaded and get two outs then almost get no runs is huge, but "Nogo" broke his heart and we were able to put up a big 4 spot. After that we were cruising."

Liebrandt went 6.2 innings and only gave up one earned run. The other run came off an error by center fielder Ben DeLuzio. Liebrandt had very good command of his fastball today and threw 66 strikes on 102 pitches. His counterpart, Miami pitcher Bryan Radziewski, only pitched 4.1 innings, but threw one pitch more than Liebrandt did. Liebrandt ended the day with three strikeouts, one walk and allowed six hits.

Florida State added another run in the 3rd inning on another Brizuela RBI, and then added five more in the 7th. Miami walked the first two batters of the inning and D.J. Stewart broke things open with an RBI double. Florida State had four consecutive hits after that including another RBI by Brizuela. Brizuela finished the day 3-4 with four RBIs.

Florida State got two back to back scoreless innings by Gage Smith and Brandon Johnson to end the game. The Seminoles improve to 7-1 on the season while Miami falls to 5-4. Tomorrow's game will begin at 1 PM and will have a curfew of 4:35 PM due to travel reasons. Mike Compton will be on the hill for the Seminoles.
