Florida State Practice Report: 9/29

Florida State started preparation for Wake Forest. Could the Seminoles be getting a key piece of their defense back this week?

Like every Monday practice Florida State came out in shells today. Mario Pender and Mario Edwards Jr. were both in non-contact jerseys while Eddie Goldman and Terrance Smith were fully participating. Trey Marshall was not dressed, but was at practice after sustaining a concussion against NC State.

Ukeme Eligwe was working with the first team field goal block unit. He was also participating in linebacker drills and looked very quick and fluid in his movements. There didn’t seem to be any lingering ill effects from his Lisfranc injury.

The linebackers spent most of the period working on proper pursuit angles and wrapping up. Mathew Thomas was performing very well in the drills showing great athleticism while also breaking down and wrapping up before every tackle. E.J. Levenberry and Terrance Smith were also performing well.

Every unit on the defense was working on tackling drills. The defensive backs were working with the linebackers during the pursuit drills and the defensive line spent the first two periods working on quarterback chase drills.

The kick off return unit was receiving special attention today after Jimbo said they didn’t block well against NC State. Jimbo and coach Graham were both very vocal in what the unit needed to fix.
