NoleDigest Playoff Projections and Top Ten

The NoleDigest staff gives their projected playoffs and power rankings.

In Right Now: Geoff

1

FSU

Best team in country

2

Alabama

If FSU is not the best team, Alabama is.

3

TCU

Survive and advance

4

Miss State

Will earn place with win in the Egg Bowl

Projected Playoff: Geoff

(GV does not change a thing from a week ago)

1

Florida State (13-0)

Will be clear cut favorite to repeat

2

Alabama (12-1)

Will run the gauntlet.

3

Miss State (11-1)

Will beat Ole Miss. In this scenario no SEC Champs game and they are sitting pretty for playoff.

4

TCU (11-1)

Easiest road to the playoffs

In Right Now: Wayne

Rationale

1

FSU

Just keep winning. The offensive line shuffle changes everything we know about this team. If they can continue to get better and the run game continues to progree, then i don't know if there is a team in college football that can beat the Noles.

2

Alabama

The Tide are in position to win the SEC if they can win the Iron Bowl.

3

Oregon

Oregon's path to the playoff just got a lot easier not having to play Arizona State.

4

TCU

Snuck by Kansas, but winning is winning. They need Baylor to lose or a ton of chaos the last two weeks in order to stay here.

Projected Playoff: Wayne

Rationale (Same four)

1

FSU (13-0)

Florida State will stay undefeated. There are still challenges on the schedule, but FSU should be able to handle them.

2

Alabama (12-1)

One major test down. Two to go.

3

Oregon (12-1)

Oregon will win out and likely play in the Rose bowl due to the location of the other three teams.

4

TCU (12-1)

I think Baylor loses to Kansas State and TCU gets in over Ohio State.

In Right Now: Jason

Rationale

1

FSU

Quality Wins: Clemson (w/Watson), Notre Dame, @Louisville, @Miami. At some point have to give credit for the zero in the loss column.

2

Oregon

Quality Wins: Michigan State, @UCLA, @Utah. Arizona loss at home came when they had injuries up front

3

Alabama

Quality Wins: Miss State, @LSU, #WVU. A notch better than everyone other than FSU at this point. Loss @Ole Miss the best loss of anyone.

4

Baylor

Quality Wins: TCU, @Oklahoma. Lost to a decent team @WVU.

Projected Playoff: Jason

Rationale

1

Florida State (13-0)

Given how the OL looked w/Erving at center and Johnson at LT, I expect this team to win out and get the top seed w/wins over Clemson, @Louisville, Notre Dame, @Miami, Florida, and Duke/GaTech. If FSU plays GaTech in ACCCG, it will be grateful to have played the Citadel early in year.

2

Alabama (12-1)

Auburn could definitely spoil things in the Iron Bowl, but the game is in Tuscaloosa. Again, FSU fans should be rooting against the Tide at this point, as Bama is the one team with the horses to compete against a healthy FSU in the playoff.

3

Oregon (12-1)

Still no guarantee they win out, but have the best odds to be here.

4

Baylor (11-1)

If Baylor beats KSU, I think they're here, and TCU still has to get past an improving Texas. If both lose, I think this spot goes to Mississippi State (11-1).

Power Ranking: Geoff

Rationale

1

Florida State

26 in a row. Not pretty. Never is. Should win out to the playoff and would have to be considered an upset if they are not seeded no. 1

2

Alabama

Had to like the Crimson Tide to beat Mississippi State because Alabama beats Miss State. Iron Bowl not looking that tough anymore

3

TCU

Survive and advance..........Nobody, I mean nobody, can expect to march into Lawrence, Kansas and get an easy win. Bet you never heard that before.

4

Miss State

At the end of the day they are in perfect position. Have a top 2 road loss (close) should finish 11-1 and won't have to beat Georgia in SEC Title game

5

Oregon

Media trying to sell Mariota to the public and Oregon as a program, might be enough to get them into playoff

6

Baylor

Bears do not have a non-conference schedule, that will keep them out of the playoff.

7

Georgia

Loss to UF is just atrocious. Terrible. Now they need some chaos. Serious chaos. Then an impressive win over Alabama/Miss State.

8

Ohio State

Correctly called the struggle with Minnesota a week ago (betters take not)......now it is smooth sailing until Wisconsin in B10 title game.

9

Ole Miss

They are here because other options are worse. Safely here. Better watch out next week at Arkansas.

10

Arizona

Cardiac kids survive another one. ASU's loss opens the door for Wildcats.

Rank

Power Ranking: Wayne

1

FSU

This team has Heart. Miles and Miles of heart. Jimmy McGinty would be proud.

2

Alabama

Took down No.1. The Tide's defense is playing incredibly well, but the offense is extremely inconsistent.

3

Oregon

On a Bye. The Pac-12 did take a hit with ASU's loss to Oregon State.

4

TCU

Winning ugly is still winning. I can't praise FSU for doing that and then fault TCU.

5

Mississippi State

That late touchdown that didn't matter in the game is really going to help them in the eyes of the committee. The final score looked a lot closer than it was.

6

Baylor

Bye Week. Win out and they will move past TCU.

7

Ohio State

They keep winning. Will need help even if they win out.

8

Ole Miss

The best of the two loss teams. Can they win the Egg bowl after losing Treadwell?

9

Kansas State

Bill Synder is a magician. They can wreck Baylor's chances of getting into the playoff in a couple of weeks.

10

Wisconsin

Melvin Gordon is an animal. If he doesn't get hurt against LSU Wisconsin is probably 9-1.

Rank

Power Ranking: Jason

Rationale

1

FSU

26 in a row despite another 3 turnover game. The move of Cam Erving to center and Rod Johnson at LT has taken one of this team's biggest weaknesses and made it a strength. With that OL, FSU will be much tougher down the stretch and in the playoff.

2

Alabama

Win over Miss State was closer than I expected.

3

Miss State

As big and physical up front as anyone in the country but couldn't stop Amari Cooper or Blake Sims. Was never sold on their ability to throw the ball against a quality defense, and they struggled to do it against Bama.

4

Oregon

Look much better up front with Jake Fisher back from injury but may have just lost their center. Benefited from a freak 14-point swing against Utah and dominated the second half. Still vulnerable against a team with big, physical lines.

5

Baylor

They don't play anyone outside the conference, but wins against TCU and OU can't be overlooked. FSU wants to see this team in the playoff.

6

TCU

As fast on the perimeter as anyone in the country but have shown some warts, giving up big plays on defense.

7

Ole Miss

Bad beat against Auburn in a game they should have won. Not the same team without Treadwell, who is the best NFL prospect at his position in the country

8

Georgia

Jeckyll and Hyde of 2014. Best traditional running game in the country but horrible losses to UF and USCe. Not very good in the secondary.

9

Wisconsin

As of right now, I think Wisconsin wins the B1G Ten

10

Ohio State

Dominated a good (though overrated) Michigan State team and then won at a decent Minnesota. Terrible loss to a bad VaTech team still an albatross. Offense good enough to give FSU trouble if it came to that, but this team is not nearly what some seem to think
