NoleDigest Playoff Projections and Rankings

The NoleDigest staff gives their playoff projections and power rankings.

In Right Now: Geoff

Rationale

1

FSU

Best team in country

2

Alabama

If FSU is not the best team, Alabama is.

3

TCU

Should be in with a win

4

Oregon

In with a win over Arizona

Projected Playoff: Geoff

Rationale

1

Florida State (13-0)

Will be clear cut favorite to repeat

2

Alabama (12-1)

Will run the gauntlet.

3

TCU (11-1)

Easiest road to the playoffs

4

Baylor (11-1)

Badgers beat Buckeyes. Arizona beats Oregon. Bears and B12 pull off the absolutely ridiculous scenario (2 B12 teams)

In Right Now: Wayne

Rationale

1

FSU

Just one more game and FSU will be the only undefeated team in the playoff.

2

Alabama

Alabama is playing extremely well right now.

3

Oregon

Revenge or another year of disappointment?

4

TCU

They have the best resume of the other one loss teams. For now...

Projected Playoff: Wayne

Rationale (Same four)

1

Oregon (12-1)

Oregon jumps Alabama after beating down Arizona.

2

Alabama (12-1)

Expect them to run away with the SEC Championship game.

3

FSU (13-0)

Triple option with just one week to prepare is a nightmare, but the Noles will get the job done at the last second once again.

4

Baylor (12-1)

Ohio State goes down agaisnt Wisconsin, and Baylor jumps TCU due to the head to head win.

In Right Now: Jason

Rationale

1

FSU

Quality Wins: Clemson (w/Watson), Notre Dame, @Louisville, @Miami. At some point you have to give credit for the zero in the loss column. It's very hard to go undefeated. It's almost impossible to do it twice in a row.

2

Alabama

Quality Wins: Miss State, @LSU, #WVU, Auburn. A notch better than everyone other than FSU at this point. Loss @Ole Miss the best loss of anyone.

3

Oregon

Quality Wins: Michigan State, @UCLA, @Utah. Arizona loss at home came when they had injuries up front

4

Baylor

Quality Wins: TCU, @Oklahoma. Lost to a decent team @WVU.

Projected Playoff: Jason

Rationale

1

Alabama (12-1)

Bama is the one team with the horses to compete against a healthy FSU in the playoff. Mizzou does not have the horses to compete against Bama in the SECCG.

2

Oregon (12-1)

Win over Arizona is no gimme, but odds are they make it to this spot.

3

Florida State (13-0)

This is going to be a tough week against a very good and very hot GT team, but FSU should have just enough in the tank to advance to Pasadena. Given their schedule, they should be the top seed if they finish undefeated, but that isn't going to happen. Still has over a 50% chance of making it with a loss in the ACCCG, as odds are that only five one-loss teams remain after the weekend. Given total resumes, FSU would likely go over a second Big 12 team or Ohio State at this point.

4

Baylor (11-1)

If Baylor beats KSU, I think they're here. If not, it's TCU (11-1).

Power Ranking: Geoff

Rationale

1

Florida State

28 in a row. Tougher game than expected this week vs. Georgia Tech.

2

Alabama

The Tide should roll in the SEC Title game.

3

TCU

Have the best resume of the 1 loss teams. Should coast this week, might need to make it pretty.

4

Oregon

The Ducks will have to earn it with a win over Arizona.

5

Baylor

Need to win at Kansas State and hope the committee values the conference title over TCUs better resume.

6

Ohio State

Buckeyes are on their third QB....still able to blow out the B10. That is how bad it is.

7

Arizona

Rich Rodriguez has done an outstanding job in Tucson. Another wiin with a lot of help could see 'Cats backdoor way into playoffs

8

Georgia Tech

Big win on the road at Georgia has many believing in Atlanta

9

Kansas State

Will need some chaos and the committee to overvalue the potential win over Baylor

10

Mississippi State

Land here. Losses to Alabama and a top 20 team are nothing to hang head about. Beat LSU, Auburn, AM, Arkansas. Good year in Starkville.

Rank

Power Ranking: Wayne

1

FSU

Florida State is 12-0. Won 28 straight. Not moving the Noles till someone beats them.

2

Alabama

It wasn't pretty and they needed a double digit comeback, but they got the job done. Sound familiar?

3

Oregon

Oregon gets another crack at their only loss. Can Arizona do it again?

4

TCU

Their hold on this spot is tenuous. Ohio State or Baylor will jump them with wins this week.

5

Ohio State

Barrett going down is going to hurt them quite a bit. Can they get past a tough Wisconsin team?

6

Baylor

Have to beat Kansas State and hope Ohio State loses to get in.

7

Arizona

They have the best win of the two loss group

8

Wisconsin

The best rushing attack in college football. Can ruin Ohio State's entire season with a win this weekend.

9

Kansas State

I have no idea how Snyder does this year in and year out. There is very little talent on that Kansas State team, but they play extremely well.

10

Georgia Tech

Took down rival Georgia in spectacular fashion. One of the hottest teams down the stretch. Florida State will have its hands full.

Rank

Power Ranking: Jason

Rationale

1

FSU

28 in a row despite turning it over five times in a rivalry game. But FSU dominated up front on both sides, which was the biggest difference. If FSU can get past GT, nobody wants to face this team.

2

Alabama

Problems in the secondary, inconsistent at QB, but definitely the second-best team I've seen this season. Would be a war if they faced FSU.

3

Oregon

Look much better up front as they've gotten healthy but no guarantee to beat an Arizona team that has had their number.

4

TCU

As fast on the perimeter as anyone in the country but have shown some warts, giving up big plays on defense. I'd pick them over Baylor at a neutral site.

5

Baylor

They don't play anyone outside the conference, but wins against TCU and OU can't be overlooked. FSU wants to see this team in the playoff.

6

Georgia Tech

Nobody wants to play this team right now. Beat UGA in Athens despite a bad call that allowed a 99-yard fumble return against them.

7

Miss State

Got exposed a bit against Ole Miss and Bama but still very good on the line of scrimmage.

8

Wisconsin

I still think Wisconsin wins the B1G Ten. Even more likely now that tOSU just lost their second QB.

9

Ohio State

Struggled against the two quality defenses they played this year and just lost a much-improved J.T. Barrett.

10

Arizona

Needed a Hail Mary to beat Cal, a last-drive escape against UTSA, but wins @Oregon, Arizona State, etc. shouldn't be ignored.
