Lorenzo Phillips Talks FSU Commitment

Florida State has received a commitment from top JUCO linebacker Lorenzo Phillips

2015 4-star JUCO linebacker Lorenzo Phillips has committed to Florida State. Phillips is currently at East Mississippi Community College after transferring from LSU. He is the No. 8 rated JUCO prospect on Scout.com and is the No. 1 rated JUCO linebacker.

Phillips made his commitment to running backs coach Jay Graham.

“He was really excited,” Phillips said. “He said everything is going to be good and that he thought I had a bright future.”

Phillips said his decision was a very simple one.

“I just feel like this is the best opportunity for me with the coaches and the team,” Phillips said. “I’m ready to take this chance and see what I can make out of it.”

Phillips also had this to say about his future position.

“The coaches said that I will get to play off the edge,” said Phillips. “They also said I’ll get to play in the box some.”

Scout.com national recruiting analyst Greg Powers had this to say about Phillips.

“Phillips is an exciting defensive player. He is lightning off the edge and is someone who makes a lot of tackles for a loss as a result. He is a nightmare for offensive tackles, who he at times just blows right past. He is also fast in general and that allows him to be a guy who can cover as well. He will fit in perfectly in that hybrid position outside backer/safety position in college.”

Phillips becomes the 22nd recruit in Florida State’s class and pulls the Seminoles to 4th in the team rankings.
