Florida State's 2016 Big Board: Offense

Florida State is set up to make a run at the No. 1 recruiting class in 2016.

Florida State signed another excellent class on Wednesday, but the coaches have already turned their efforts to the 2016 class and so shall we. As of right now, FSU will have at least 17 scholarships available before attrition next season, but we expect the class to have a full 25 available after attrition.

Head coach Jimbo Fisher indicated that he held some scholarships back in 2015 for the 2016 class, but would like to have more considering the amount of elite talent interested in FSU in this class.

"We don't have large numbers next year," Fisher said. "We don't have a lot of seniors. We’re based on whether juniors come out. So I'd rather hold those scholarships and have another great class next year."

Florida State is in great position to start the season with seven juniors currently committed, two on the offensive side of the ball. While this list will change, here is the list of 2016 offensive recruits that Florida State fans should know. We will keep it updated throughout the year.

Quarterback

Seniors: None

Needs: 1

On the Board:

Florida State has found their guy in Henry and if he sticks with his commitment Florida State will be done at the position. Henry camped at Florida State in July and committed to the Seminoles in November. Originally from California he has transferred to IMG Academy in Florida and has been recruiting for Florida State. Henry has since left IMG and will be transferring back out west. Henry’s commitment is firm and he has been recruiting for the Seminoles.

Running Back

Seniors: None

Needs: 1

This position is completely up for grabs and there will likely be a completely different group listed above in a couple months as camp season starts. Florida State isn’t losing any running backs next season and currently has 4 on the roster not including fullback Jonathan Vickers who could be used as a running back. There isn't a ton of great running backs in the state of Florida this year, but both Amir Rasul and Travis Homer's recruitments have picked up. Andrew Lee is also an interesting prospect if he can get his grades in order. Malik Miller is also an interesting prospect that will choose between Florida State and Auburn.

Wide Receiver

Seniors: None

Needs: 2

Commits:

On the Board:

After landing 7 receiver commitments in the last two seasons, receiver isn’t a position of priority for the Seminoles in 2016. That means Florida State can be picky and hold out for the receivers they want. Gavin committed to the Seminoles as a receiver, and that is where Florida State likes him at. Nate Craig is the only wide receiver on the board at the moment. Dawsey has made him their number one priority and they are only lightly recruiting the other receivers. Florida State is closing in on Craig and will recruit him hard until the end..

Side of the Board:

If Florida State isn't able to land Craig, Nixon is the guy they will turn to. He has risen up the charts lately and the staff is very high no him.

Tight End

Seniors: None

Needs: 1

Commits:

On the Board:

Like quarterback Florida State needs just one tight end in this class and they have their guy in Nauta. He is considered one of the top tight ends in the 2016 class and has transferred to IMG Academy. Upshur is an interesting prospect that has Florida State high on his list. Florida State is showing heavy interest.

Offensive Line

Seniors: None

Needs: 3–4

Commits:

Johnson is the No. 2 rated center in the country and will likely be No. 1 by the end of this cycle. He was dominant at the Orlando Opening camp against a very good group of offensive linemen. Boselli isn't the most athletic player, but he is technically sound and takes coaching very well. He is a perfect fit for coach Trickett. Ball committed to Florida State in early June right after a visit to Tallahassee. His size and strength make him one of the most underrated prospects in the country.

A lot of the guys listed can play either position and that is something that the Seminole coaching staff looks for. Merritt is at the top of the board for Florida State.Offensive line coach Rick Trickett spent a lot of time with Reese at the Jimbo Fisher Camp in July and made him a priority. This list will likely change quite a bit as Trickett gets more recruits into the camps. Florida State has just 13 offensive linemen on the roster this season, but none of the current offensive linemen are seniors.
