Florida State has nine commitments for the 2016 class, but Godby defensive tackle Cedric Wood was the first. Wood committed to the Seminoles in February of 2014, and in that time has visited the Florida State campus over two dozen times.
Wood has quite a few offers, but had just one thing to say about his recruitment.
“I love being a Florida State commit,” Wood said.
Wood said that he will be playing some defensive end for Godby this season. As for what position Florida State will play him at Wood says he’s not sure.
“ I want to be that player that gets the chance to move around,” Wood said. “Wherever they want me to go I can go.”
Wood has a great relationship with defensive line coach Odell Haggins and quality control assistant Brian Williams. He was able to talk to new Seminole defensive ends coach Brad Lawing for the first time today.
“I deal with coach Williams and coach Haggins, and I used to deal with coach Sal but he left,” Wood said. “I just met coach Lawing. He was pretty cool. He was open with me and let me know straight out how it was going to be. I like people that don’t sugarcoat anything.”
The 6-foot-3, 300-pound Wood is the No. 1 rated defensive tackle in Florida and the No. 26 defensive tackle overall by Scout.
