Florida State offered 3-star center Baveon Johnson today during their Junior Day. The 2016 prospect from Lake Gibson Senior held offers from Miami, Florida, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Louisville among others. The one he had been waiting on, however, didn’t come till today.
“They offered me,” Johnson said. “I’m pretty happy about that. I grew up loving this school.”
Johnson really enjoyed the tour of the campus, which included the new athlete dorms.
“I saw the new facilities,” Johnson said. “I saw the dorms for the first time. It was a good day.”
Johnson spent most of his visit talking to offensive line coach Rick Trickett.
“We talked about what position I’m going to play,” Johnson said. “We talked about how the schemes work, the blocking schemes they have. Basic offensive line stuff. He likes me at center and guard.”
Coach Trickett can be hard on his offensive lineman, but Johnson said he likes Trickett’s mentality.
“I like him a lot,” Johnson said. “I know that if I come here he’s going to be real hard on me. He said my weight is out of control right now and he want’s me to drop some weight and tighten up in the classroom.”
As for when he’s going to make his decision Johnson wasn’t ready to make up his mind.
“I’m going to think about it,” Johnson said. “I’m going to Florida’s junior day, as well as the Nike SPARQ combine in Orlando, and the Rivals camp on March 9th.”
The 6-foot-2, 325-pound prospect may not be ready to commit to the Seminoles just yet, but he did get a Florida State tattoo his freshman year.
“I grew up loving this school,” Johnson said. “I got this after my freshman year. I’m just in the moment right now."
