Lawrencville (Ga.) Archer 2016 4-star offensive tackle E.J. Price took a visit to Tallahassee for the Florida State Junior Day on Saturday. In addition to an offer from the Seminoles he holds offers from over 20 schools including Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, and Ohio State. Price really enjoyed his visit to Florida State especially getting to know offensive line coach Rick Trickett.
“It was an excellent experience today,” Price said. “Coach Trickett I got to talk to him and we went over the board. He’s very straightforward and I respect that a lot. I love the facilities here. I was highly impressed with the coaching staff, the people, and the atmosphere today.”
This was Price’s first visit to Florida State. He said that the thing that jumped out the most about his visit was how honest the coaches are.
“The coaches were honest and upfront,” Price said. “They didn’t sugar coat it. Coach Trickett let us know ‘Y’all are not as good as you think you are’ and a lot of recruits may take that the wrong way, but I love it. It is easy to get caught up in the rankings and the hype and who did this and that. When we get to college none of that stuff will matter.”
Offensive line coach Rick Trickett is known for his gruff manner, but Price said he appreciates it.
“I just loved his honesty today,” Price said. “A lot of times when you go to colleges it’s kind of a used car salesman feel and they’re just telling you what you want to hear. Here he let me know. What you see is what you get. I feel like how he was today is how he would be if I were to come here.”
Price recently named a Top-10 that included Florida State, but he said after this visit they’re definitely in his Top-5.
“I released a Top-10 recently and Florida State was in the Top-5,” Price said. “They’re definitely in the Top-5 and they may creep up even higher than they were before. They’re definitely a contender now.”
Price said one of the main factors in his recruitment is education and said he wants to get a law degree at some point.
“My parents are really focused on the education part of it,” Price said. “Go somewhere and get you a degree so you can have a career after football because football is temporary. That’s really my main focus and I hope to major in law someday.”
In addition to talking with coach Trickett, Price was also able to spend some time with Seminole head coach Jimbo Fisher.
“He just let me know that I was high on their board and that he really wanted me badly,” Price said. “He watched my tape and was highly impressed. He looked forward to getting me on campus and building a rapport with me. He felt good about me and I felt good about him and the entire coaching staff today.”
The 6-foot-6, 311-pound prospect said he plans to visit Auburn next weekend and plans to get back to Florida State for the Seminoles spring game. Price is the No. 12 offensive tackle and No. 115 overall in the 2016 Scout 300.
