Florida State ended a five game losing streak to rival Florida with their 8-3 victory over the Gators in Jacksonville. Starter Bryant Holtmann picked up the win and improves to 4-1 on the season after going 5+ innings while giving up just one run on five hits with three strikeouts, no walks, and one hit by pitch.
Florida State got on the board in the second inning when Hank Truluck followed up a Josh Delph double with an RBI single to right. The Seminoles added another in the third to make it 2-0 when D.J. Stewart roped a ball down the right field line for an RBI double. Sansone scored on the play.
The Gators cut the lead in half in the fourth with a solo homerun by Josh Tobias over the left field wall. Florida State would respond in the bottom half of the inning when Danny De La Calle destroyed a baseball over the left field wall. The Seminoles would add two more in the fifth with Dylan Busby and Josh Delph singling in a run each to make it 5-1.
Starter Bryant Holtmann would get into trouble in the sixth allowing two singles to the first two batters before head coach Mike Martin called on Dylan Silva. Silva recorded a fly out followed by two strikeouts to get out of the jam.
Florida State would bust the game wide open in the seventh with three more runs to make it 8-0. De La Calle added another RBI on a single to left while a bases loaded walk by Sansone and a sacrifice fly would round out the scoring for the Noles.
Florida tried to make some noise in the top of the ninth to extend the game, but it was too little too late and the Seminoles picked up the victory. John Sansone finished the game 4-4 with a walk, double, RBI, and two runs scored.
Florida State will improve to 23-7 on the season and will travel to NC State to take on the Wolfpack in a three game series starting on Thursday. Boomer Biegalski is expected to get the start for the Seminoles.
