Florida State Practice Report: 4/1

Florida State return to the practice field with plenty of starting positions available.

Florida State practiced in shells on Wednesday. Derrick Kelly and Chad Mavety were still out with concussions, but the offensive line did get Ethan Frith back participating today. Mavin Saunders and Freddie Stevenson were the only player who had been participating that weren’t today. Stevenson was absent. Kermit Whitfield, Calvin Brewton, and Terrance Smith continue to be sidelined. Delvin Purifoy was not at practice.

Ryan Green has been showing some promise at the cornerback position, and he was shadowing Marquez White at the field cornerback spot opposite of Jalen Ramsey.

Derwin James was also shadowing Nate Andrews at the free safety position. Tyler Hunter continues to move around working at strong safety during the 4-3 walkthroughs, but moved over to working at the star with Trey Marshall in the nickel package.

Marshall and James were the second team safeties while Malique Jackson and Ryan Green were the second team corners. Justin Shanks and DeMarcus Christmas were working as the second team defensive tackles behind Derrick Nnadi and Nile Lawrence-Stample.

Travis Rudolph was working in the slot with Bobo Wilson and Ermon Lane as the outside receivers.

Travis Rudolph and Bobo Wilson were working as the first team kick off returners with Mario Pender and George Campbell as the second team.

With the offensive line injuries Brock Ruble, Wilson Bell, and Alec Eberle continue to take first team reps. Corey Martinez was working as the second team center.

Post Practice Update

Jimbo was not happy at all with the way the receivers played today. He said that they couldn’t catch, run the right routes, or do anything right. Coach Dawsey had them running after practice.

Once again Jimbo was pleased with the running game. That’s been a theme so far this spring. He was very complimentary of the offensive line, but did say that Rod Johnson needed to pick it up a little bit.

Freddie Stevenson is out for 4-6 weeks with a hyper-extended knee. Jimbo said he needed a screw put in.

Jimbo was happy with the defense. He said the offense wasn’t able to match their intensity.
