Florida State Practice Report: 4/9

Florida State practice in Doak Campbell to get the team ready for the Spring Game.

Florida State practiced in Doak Campbell on Thursday in full pads in their last practice before the Spring Game. There wasn’t much difference from yesterday, but Jacob Pugh, Nate Andrews, Justin Shanks, and Ryan Green were all not dressed after taking part in yesterday’s practice.

In addition to those three, Derrick Kelly, Calvin Brewton, Jeremy Kerr, Kermit Whitfield, DeMarcus Christmas, and John Franklin III were not dressed. Nile Lawrence-Stample and Terrance Smith were not at practice. They join Giorgio Newberry, Delvin Purifoy, Tyler Hunter, Colin Blake, Derrick Mitchell, Freddie Stevenson, Reggie Northrup, Da'vante Phillips, Ryan Hoefeld, Mathew Thomas, Josh Sweat, and Chris Casher who are out for the Spring. That brings the number of players not participating to 24.

With the injuries on the defensive line Keith Bryant continues to work with the first team next to Derrick Nnadi. Rick Leonard and Demarcus Walker continue to be the starting defensive ends. Derwin James was working as the first team free safety with Andrews sidelined. Lorenzo Featherston was participating with the second team.

Ja’Vonn Harrison has worked his way onto the first team, at least for this practice, ahead of Ermon Lane. Travis Rudolph and Bobo Wilson were the other two receivers.

Ryan Izzo continues to be in a non-contact jersey, but he was also working with the first team offense. Chad Mavety was back working with the first team at right tackle. Brock Ruble was working with the twos, but as we were leaving Mavety seemed to be shaken up as we were leaving and he was back with the first team.

Every running back, including Jonathan Vickers, was rotating in with the first team as well.

Both Alec Eberle and Corey Martinez were having trouble with their snaps today. Very few were on target and most were extremely high.

Jalen Ramsey and Mario Pender were the first team kick off returners. Bobo Wilson and Travis Rudolph were backing them up.

4-star Florida State defensive end commitment Josh Brown was in attendance.

Post Practice Update

Mavety had a relapse with his concussion and didn’t participate for most of the practice.

Jimbo mentioned Jalen Ramsey, Derwin James, Rick Leonard, Keith Bryant, Ja’Vonn Harrison, Jacques Patrick, Travis Rudolph, Dalvin Cook, and Mario Pender as players that stood out to him today.

He said he liked the physicality and the effort that was given on both sides of the ball. Something he has not been pleased with a whole lot this spring.
