Wichita (KS) East 4-star defensive end Xavier Kelly continued his tour of the southeast with a visit to Florida State. In addition to the Seminoles Kelly has offers from nearly every major school in the country including Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Texas A&M.
Kelly said the visit was "amazing." He really enjoyed the facilities, but the thing that stood out to him the most was the Seminole coaching staff and the experience that they have.
“I really like how the coaching staff is a little older,” Kelly said. “That shows you how experienced they are. I feel very comfortable with them. They all have a lot of coaching experience and know football very well.”
Defensive ends coach Brad Lawing met with Kelly before he left and talked to him about what position he would play in the Seminoles defense.
“He was telling me what position he wants me to play,” Kelly said. “We went over defensive schemes too.”
Head coach Jimbo Fisher got to talk with Kelly as well, but they didn’t walk about football.
“[We talked about] life after football,” Kelly said.
Kelly will continue his tour of the southeast on Sunday with a trip to Clemson. He didn’t know when he would be coming back to see Florida State again, but did say he was going to come for a game.
Kelly didn’t have a time frame for a commitment, but did have a general idea for when he will trim down his list of schools.
“I'm not leaning towards any school right now,” Kelly said. “Hopefully by the end of the summer I will have a top five or top eight.”
The 6-foot-5, 230-pound defensive end is the No. 21 rated defensive end and the No. 201 ranked prospect in the 2016 Scout 300.
