Florida State catcher Danny De La Calle was drafted in the 9th round by the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday. De La Calle was one of the premier defensive catchers in college baseball last season. This season he saw a huge jump at the plate going from a .224 batting average to a .251. He also homered eight times after not having a single one in 2015.
De La Calle was an iron man behind the plate starting all but a few games over the last two seasons. Replacing him will be the toughest task of the offseason for head coach Mike Martin and his staff.
