4-star LB Cowan Commits To FSU

Florida State picked up their fourth commitment for the 2017 class with linebacker VanDarius Cowan.

Palm Beach Gardens (Fla) 4-star linebacker VanDarius Cowan has committed to Florida State. In addition to the Seminoles he had offers from Florida, Louisville, Miami, Notre Dame, and Ohio State among others.

Cowan picked up an offer in the spring, and the Florida State coaching staff has been putting in the time with him since then.

“I’ve talked to them a lot,” Cowan said. “It’s been since spring and a little bit before spring.”

Florida State was his favorite school growing up and he was extremely excited to get that offer.

“It’s my favorite school,” Cowan said. “I always grew up a Florida State fan. It’s just one of those things. It made it better when they offered me. I wasn’t expecting it so young in high school. It was pretty cool.”

After all that there wasn’t much left keeping the 4-star from pulling the trigger.

“I just needed something to push me over the edge,” Cowan said. “Being here today and dealing with the coaches it’s just one of those things.”

He talks frequently with linebackers coach Bill Miller, but they don’t just talk about football.

“We talk about what I want to major in in college,” Cowan said. “How I feel about the zone and how they play up there.”

Cowan measured in at 6-foot-3, 221-pounds at the camp and is being recruited to play either Sam or Will linebacker at Florida State.
