2017 OT Alex Leatherwood Enjoys FSU visit

2017 offensive tackle Alex Leatherwood enjoyed his visit to Florida State, but remains committed to Alabama.

Pensacola (Fla.) Booker T Washington 2017 offensive tackle Alex Leatherwood really shined at the Jimbo Fisher Camp on Thursday. Leatherwood committed to Alabama recently, but picked up a Florida State offer today.

Leatherwood grew up a Florida State fan and had a lot to say about what stood out about the Seminoles.

“They have great facilities,” Leatherwood said. “They have a great engineering program. It’s just close to home and a nice place to be around.”

Offensive line coach Rick Trickett isn’t a coach that every recruit wants to play for, but he’s the type of coach that Leatherwood wants to play for.

“I like him a lot,” Leatherwood said. “He’s real cool. He’s real blunt. That’s what I need. A straight up dude who’s going to be straight forward with me. So I can play to the best of my abilities.”

Growing up a Florida State fan the offer meant a lot to him.

“It means a lot really,” Leatherwood said. “Knowing that they just came off two great seasons and for me to come to the camp and show them what I have and them to offer me says a lot about my talent.”

Despite all that Alabama remains on top for the elite tackle.

“They have great facilities,” Leatherwood said. “They’re known for winning and that’s what I want to do. Win.”

The 6-foot-4.5, 297-pound tackle may visit LSU and Florida State in July.
