Offensive MVP: D.J. Matthews
Matthews worked out for two sessions and just flat out crushed it. He was easily the best wide receiver on the field and he was almost uncoverable. He plays a lot bigger than he is and his athleticism is top notch.
Defensive MVP: Maleik Gray & Jamyest Williams
There were three 2017 defensive back recruits at the camp that are in the Top-35 of the rankings, but Gray and Williams, who are both in the 100 to 150 range, stole the show. Both showed elite athleticism and an alpha dog mentality. Neither lost a single rep in the time that I watched and both showed elite playmaking ability. Williams is a corner and Gray is likely a safety at the next level.
Other Top Performers
Quarterback: Malik Henry
Henry only threw for one session, but he was easily the best quarterback of the camp. He showed off why Jimbo Fisher made him a priority after making every throw that they asked him too.
Running Back Lorenzo Lingard
Lingard has everything you want in a running back and he still has two years to get better. He’s a really good athlete with great burst and speed. He’ll be one of the top running backs at the camp.
Running Back Kurt Taylor
Taylor only worked out for the initial session, but he was very good in that session. He’s built like a tank, but is surprisingly quick and has great burst.
Offensive Guard Richard Merritt
Merritt was surprisingly nimble for a guy that is 350-pounds. He was very good in his one on ones and has violent hands.
Offensive Tackle Josh Ball
Ball was the best offensive line prospect at the camp and his technique was phenomenal. Trickett only had to say something once for him to pick it up immediately.
Defensive End Guy Thomas
Thomas is the younger brother of Florida State linebacker Matt Thomas. He was very quick and athletic and did very well in his one on ones.
Defense Tackle Cory Durden
Durden struggled on the first day of the camp, but got better each day and did a very good job in one on ones. He needs to play with a little more leverage, but the ability is there.
Linebacker VanDarius Cowan
Cowan has great size and he is such a fluid player. Everything looks so easy with him. He was easily the best linebacker at camp.
Cornerback Stanford Samuels
Samuels has elite size and is already very good with his technique. He’s definitely one of the top corners in the 2017 class.
Safety Jeffrey Okudah
Okudah was very good in the reps that he took and in drills. He has elite size and could end up at linebacker, but he’s an elite athlete that is already very good technically.
Safety Cyrus Fagan
Fagan is a safety all the way, but was surprisingly good in one on ones. He has great size and athleticism to go along with great instincts.
