Sports Illustrated recently released an article on the top players for each jersey number. Four Florida State players made the list, three of which played defense for the Seminoles.
No. 2: Deion Sanders was first Florida State player on the list. His No. 2 jersey was retired by Florida State in 1995 and was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2011. He was a two-time consensus All-American and is widely considered the best cornerback to ever play the game.
No. 17: Charlie Ward is the only offensive player on the list for the Seminoles. He won the Heisman trophy in 1993 and helped lead Florida State to their first National Championship. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2006.
No. 55: Marvin Jones was the best linebacker to ever play at Florida State. He won the Butkus Award, and was named a consensus All-American in 1991 and 1992. Florida State inducted him into their hall of fame and his jersey is being retired this year.
No. 58: Peter Boulware set the single season record for sacks in a season by a Florida State player with 19 in 1996. He was a consensus All-American that year and was elected into the Florida State Hall of Fame in 2004.
