The 2015 recruiting class that Florida State signed is all on campus, but there were two players who still needed to be cleared. When head coach Jimbo Fisher spoke at the ACC media day he mentioned that JUCO linebacker Lorenzo Phillips was finishing up some classes and that there was one other player that they were waiting on.
That player was defensive back Marcus Lewis, but he has been officially cleared and will be at practice today. Phillips will not be able to practice today, but Fisher was optimistic that everything will figured out shortly.
“Marcus will be at practice today. Lorenzo’s grades are in. Everything’s good. It’s getting the right transcript in from the official setting from what I understand. Then he should be there.”
Getting Phillips in and practicing as quickly as possible will be important for the Seminoles considering just how depleted the linebacker position is for the 2015 season.
During his press conference this afternoon coach Fisher was also asked about any current players that may have academic issues. He was noncommittal in his answer, but did say there were players that he was monitoring.
“We always are,” Fisher said. “Guys that you are waiting to see. When we get them back you’ll get those announcements.”
Florida State has lost at least one player to academics over the last two seasons.
