Florida State Open Practice Report: 8/9

Florida State held their open practice on Sunday after media and fan day.

Florida State held their open practice inside Doak Cambell on a scorching hot Sunday. Jalen Wilkerson, Tavarus McFadden, Justin Shanks, Ryan Hoefeld and Marcus Lewis were not participating. Lorenzo Phillips was at practice, but was not dressed out.

Corey Martinez was working with the first team offensive line at center for most of the day, but Alec Eberle and Cole Minshew were rotating in with the first team. Minshew dominated the defensive tackles he went up against.

Derrick Kelly still with the first team at right tackle. Chad Mavety seems to be holding some bad weight around his midsection. Freshman Abdul Bello is another freshman that is well put together.

Jalen Ramsey and Kermit Whitfield were the first team kickoff returners. Bobo Wilson and Travis Rudolph were second team and George Campbell and Mario Pender were the third team.

Rick Leonard was getting praised quite a bit on special teams. He’s always in the right place.

Ryan Izzo was working as the first team tight end once again. Jeremy Kerr came in during the two tight end sets.

Hunter working with the first team defense at the star position when they move to the nickel. Jacob Pugh comes off the field.

Bobo Wilson, Ja’Vonn Harrison, and Travis Rudolph were the first team wide receivers.

In board drills Mavin was put on his back by Tyrell Lyons and then returned the favor after Brewster jumped on his tail.

Roderick Johnson beat Demarcus Walker twice and Wilson Bell beat DeMarcus Christmas. Jeremry Kerr beat Terrance Smith twice.

Reggie Northrup and Ryan Izzo split the reps against each other.

Nyquan Murray is smooth as silk. His routes are extremely crisp and he has great hands. Auden Tate was also really good in his cuts and off the line. He has exceptional hands.

Deondre Francois was back participating and showed off his cannon multiple times. He still needs to work on the touch. Every ball came out at 90 MPH.

All four scholarship quarterbacks threw a pretty deep ball today. Golson and Francois put theirs right over the back shoulder on the outside.

Chris Casher left practice and did not return after a lower body injury.

Sh’Mar Kilby-Lane was also injured, but he returned to the field. He was not dressed or participating after he returned.
