Linebacker Reggie Herring comes in at No. 24 as we continue our countdown of the Top-75 players in Florida State history. Herring was a tackling machine that finished with more than 135 tackles in each of his final three seasons. His senior year in 1980 Herring recorded an incredible 170 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and six sacks. He was named a second team All-American by the Associated Press. Herring had a team high 14 tackles in the upset of Nebraska in Lincoln that alerted the nation to Florida State’s presence. Herring was inducted into the Florida State football Hall of Fame in 1989.
Herring immediately went into coaching and has been one of the top linebacker coaches at the college and pro football level since. He is currently the linebackers coach for the Denver Broncos.
