Charlotte (N.C.) Mallard Creek 3-star athlete Josh Brown committed to Florida State in September 2014 over offers from Alabama, Florida, LSU, Michigan, Oregon, South Carolina, and UCLA. Since then there have been a few questions as to whether he would remain committed to the Seminoles, but he says nothing has changed.
“I’m still a solid commit,” Brown said.
Brown has visited Florida State a couple times, the latest being in April for the spring game, and he has been blown away each time. Florida State being the first school to offer him has also played a big impact in his recruitment.
“It’s just the comfort level when I'm on campus and around the coaches and players,” Brown said. “With everything they bring to the table, once my dad and I sat down and weighed everything out, I realized it was the best fit for me. I just feel that that's where I want to further my education, not to mention they were the first school to give me an opportunity to play at the collegiate level. I mean, that means a lot!”
Defensive ends coach Brad Lawing and running back coach Jay Graham are his main recruiters, and he talks with them every week.
“Every week they check in to see how I'm doing and give me and update on the team or something along those lines,” Brown said.
Florida State is recruiting him to play the Buck linebacker position, which will allow him to rush the passer. That’s what coach Lawing is recruiting him to do.
“He wants me to be a great, fast twitch pass rusher,” Brown said.
Brown plans to early enroll at Florida State and only has one official visit planned at this point. He will head back to Tallahassee for the Florida State-Miami game in October.
