Florida State true freshman Dwayne Bacon has been named the Rookie of the Week by the ACC. Bacon had 23 points and 8 rebounds in the season opener against Nicholls State.
Here is the ACC statement on Bacon:
"Bacon enjoyed arguably the best debut game in Florida State history with a game-high 23 points, a game-high eight rebounds, two steals and one assist in 24 minutes played as a starter in the Seminoles’ season-opening 109-62 win over Nicholls State on Sunday. Bacon’s 23 points scored are the most by a freshman in his first game at Florida State. The 6-foot-7 Lakeland, Florida, native led the Seminoles with nine field goals made. He also pulled down a game-high eight rebounds as Florida State outrebounded the Colonels by a 42-21 margin. Bacon scored the first five points of the game for the Seminoles as he made the first two field goal attempts of his collegiate career. He scored on a 3-point shot at the 19:42 mark (the Seminoles’ first possession of the game) and added a jumper at the 19:14 mark to give Florida State a 5-0 lead (on the Seminoles’ second possession of the game). Bacon scored nine first-half points and 14 second-half points as Florida State led by as many as 28 in the first half and by as many as 48 during the game."
Bacon's 23 points are the most points ever scored by a Florida State freshman.
