Florida State Senior Spotlight: Tyler Hunter

A final look at Florida State redshirt senior defensive back Tyler Hunter.

Tyler Hunter is a redshirt senior defensive back from Lowndes High School in Valdosta, Georgia. Hunter was rated as a 3-star by Scout and the No. 6 safety in the state of Georgia.

Hunter played in 11 games as a true freshman and finished the season with 3 tackles.

Hunter had a breakout season in 2012 with a team leading 3 interceptions. He finished the season with 26 tackles and 5 passes defended. He also returned 8 punts for 126 yards and 1 touchdown.

Hunter started off the 2013 season as a starter at safety and was playing well before a severe neck injury threatened to derail his career. He missed the final 11 games of the season, and was never the same player.

He returned for the 2014 season and started all 14 games at strong safety. Hunter finished the year sixth on the team with 65 tackles. He added 2.5 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 1 interception, and 8 passes defended.

Hunter started the first 8 games of the 2015 season before being replaced at the star position by Javien Elliot. His interception against Wake Forest sealed the victory for the Seminoles. With 3 games left he has 22 tackles, .5 tackles for loss, and 1 pass defended to go along with his interception.

It's unfortunate that injuries derailed what was a very promising career for Hunter.
