Florida State Senior Spotlight: Lamarcus Brutus

A final look at Florida State redshirt senior safety Lamarcus Brutus.

Lamarcus Brutus is a redshirt senior defensive back from Treasure Coast High School in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Brutus was rated as a 3-star safety by Scout and the No. 33 safety in the country.

Brutus redshirted his first year on campus in 2011. He played in 6 games as a redshirt freshman in 2012, but did not record a tackle. He played in 11 games in 2013 as a back up defensive back and recorded 16 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and 1 pass breakup.

Brutus really started to make an impact at Florida State his junior year. He played in all 14 games and recorded the first two interceptions of his career against Florida and Georgia Tech. He finished the season with 15 tackles and 3 pass breakups.

He moved into a starting role this season as a redshirt senior. Through the first 10 games of the season he has 48 tackles, 2 interceptions, 3 passes defended, and 2 quarterback hurries. In addition to stepping into a starters role, Brutus also stepped into a leadership role for the team. He's been one of the most important players on the defense this season.

Brutus will play his final game in Doak Campbell Stadium this weekend against UT Chattanooga. It's starting to hit him that it will the last time he plays a home game for Florida State.

"...Now I've got three games left, and it'll be my last time playing in front of these fans," Brutus said. "It's a big game and it's somewhat hit me. I think it'll hit me more on the day right before the game."

This senior class has the chance to be the winningest class in Florida State history if they win two of their last three games, and Brutus has played a large part in that over the last two seasons.
