Florida State 11/19 Football Notebook

Updates on Reggie Northrup, Chad Mavety, and more before Florida State takes on UT Chatanooga on Saturday.

Reggie Northrup To Play

Jimbo Fisher got some good news on Thursday with linebacker Reggie Northrup. Northrup has missed every day of practice this week with a shoulder injury, but will be able to play against UT Chattanooga.

"Reggie Northrup is going to be probable," Fisher said. "I said earlier in the week that he was, but his shoulder stayed a little [stiff]. The last two days it's been. Yesterday it looked okay, but today it's been really, really good. I wasn't expecting for sure if he would play or not, but he's going to be probable."

Northup is the teams leading tackler with 73 on the season.

Derrick Mitchell Out

Defensive tackle Derrick Mitchell has been plagued with injuries throughout his career, and they will cost him a chance to play his final home game at Florida State. Mitchell has struggled with a back injury all season, and will miss Saturday's game because of it.

“It really is (disappointing) because he’s such a phenomenal kid and does so much for this program," Fisher said. "But we’ve got to get him right and hopefully we’ll see what goes on next week.”

Chad Mavety To Start at Right Tackle

Florida State offensive lineman Chad Mavety had missed the first two days of practice this week with an illness, but returned to practice on Thursday. Jimbo Fisher announced after Thursday's practice that Mavety would start at right tackle. Mavety had started at right tackle against Syracuse after making multiple starts at left guard earlier in the season.

During his press conference on Monday, Fisher said that Mavety graded out highest among all of the Florida State offensive linemen against Syracuse.
