Florida State dropped their first game of the season to Hofstra 82-77. The Seminoles struggled against the zone all game long, and their shots just wouldn't fall.
The Seminoles were 0-10 from the three point line in the first half. They went 6-15 in the second half from behind the arc and finished 6-25. They finished the game just 27-68 from the floor.
Freshman guard Malik Beasley attempted to put the team on his back with 25 points and 5 rebounds. Beasley has now scored at least 20 points in each of his first three games. He did not have a single shot in the final minute of the game.
Boris Bojanovsky added 11 points and 3 rebounds, and Xavier Rathan-Mayes finished with 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. Devin Bookert finished with 11 points as well.
The Seminoles got off to a quick start, but held their last lead of the game with 11:35 left in the first half. The Seminoles pulled within a possession multiple times, but could not get over the hump. The Seminoles had a chance to tie the game, but inexplicably decided to let Rathan-Mayes take the final shot despite him being just 1-6 from three on the game.
The Seminoles were sloppy with the ball with 12 turnovers compared to 9 assists, and despite their significant size advantage were out rebounded 38-36.
Florida State falls to 2-1 on the season with the loss.
