Florida State once again started off slowly, but rebounded quickly for a 52-13 win over UT Chattanooga. The Seminoles out gained the Moccasins 428-274 on the day and averaged 7.1 yards per play for the game.
Florida State wide receiver fumbled the opening kickoff, and UT Chattanooga was able to turn that possession into a field goal. The two teams traded punts before the Seminoles responded with a 6 play 46 yard drive that ended in a Jacques Patrick touchdown run.
UT Chattanooga marched their way right back down the field on the next drive, but stalled in the red zone. They kicked a field goal to bring the game to a 7-6 Florida State lead. From that point on it was all Seminoles.
Florida State scored on 8 of their final 9 drives, including 7 touchdowns. Florida State running back Dalvin Cook picked up his seventh 100-yard rushing game of the season, and the twelfth of his career. He finished with 106 yards on 15 carries and 2 touchdowns.
Quarterback Sean Maguire got the start for the Seminoles, and was very efficient. He finished the day 12-17 for 152 yards and 2 touchdowns. Both of his touchdowns went to wide receiver Kermit Whitfield, who had another stellar day with 5 catches for 91 yards in addition to the two touchdowns.
True Freshman running back Jacques Patrick also had a good day for the Seminoles. He carried the ball 16 times for 77 yards and 2 touchdowns.
On defense it was the Derwin James show in the first quarter. James was all over the field racking up 8 tackles, which was more than double the tackles of the next closest player. James finished the day with 10 tackles and 1 tackle for loss.
Redshirt senior Lamarcus Brutus picked up his team leading third interception of the season in the final home game of his career.
A number of true freshmen got to see the field in addition to Josh Sweat, James, and Patrick. Wide Receiver Nyquan Murray finished second on the team with 59 yards receiving on 4 catches. Cornerback Tarvarus McFadded had 3 tackles, safety AJ Westbrook had 2 tackles and .5 tackles for loss, and linebacker Sh'mar Kilby-Lane recorded a tackle as well. Cornerback Marcus Lewis also got into the game in the fourth quarter.
The Seminoles improved to 9-2 on the season, and finish the year undefeated at home for the third straight year. That 21 game home winning streak is the longest current streak in the country.
Florida State will finish up the regular season on the road against rival Florida next weekend.
