Florida State has been on an very good run since Jimbo Fisher took over in Tallahassee, but this senior class has taken it to another level. The graduating senior class this year has tied the program record for wins by a senior class with 48, and has a chance to be the first group to get to 50 wins in that same span if they win their remaining two games.
They have also gone three years without a home loss, and have lost just one home game during their time at Florida State. The 21-game home winning streak is the longest streak of its kind in the country.
Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher couldn't say enough about their effort over the last four years.
"I'm proud of the kids," Fisher said. "I say a special thank you to all of our seniors, last home game there and what they have accomplished and being able to keep a 21 game win streak here and a record at home, and since they have been here and what they have been able to do. A tremendous accomplishment for tying the record today for most wins in a career. 48. Going into that, which is another great accomplishment.
We have a couple games left. Hopefully we can add to that. But just a great accomplishment by them and it was their day. It was about the seniors and everything that went on there. So from that standpoint very happy for them."
The Seniors have been at Florida State for 3 ACC Championships, 1 National Championship, and 2, and counting, major bowl victories. Defensive tackle Nile Lawrence-Stample was happy that he could leave Doak Campbell Stadium for the final time with a win.
"It was awesome," Lawrence-Stample said. "I'm really happy it ended the way it did. I was happy to see seniors getting out on the field even though they weren't really starting players, they were big impact players so I was really happy about that."
This Florida State class will go down as one of the classes that brought Florida State back to greatness. They started off by winning an ACC Championship, and now they have a chance to leave with four straight seasons of 10 wins or more. A big question this week for the seniors has been what their legacy at Florida State will be. That's pretty simple. They left a legacy of winning.
