Florida State Turns Attention To Rival Florida

Florida State has turned their attention to Florida after taking care of business against UT Chattanooga.

Florida State took care of business against FCS foe UT Chattanooga and immediately set their sights on the annual showdown with rival Florida. The Gators are currently 10-1 on the year, SEC East champions, and have a chance to make the College Football Playoff.

Florida State currently sits at 9-2 on the season with a chance to make a New Years Six bowl game. Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher knows the implications run much deeper than that.

"No, first of all, it's a Florida - Florida State game," Fisher said. "Don't matter it if you're both 0-10, you got to go line up and play or whatever, you know. This is one of the reasons you come to Florida State to play a tremendous rivalry."

The two schools have a combined six National Championships and five Heisman Trophy winners over the last 25 years. Florida State running back Dalvin Cook is the kind of player that this rivalry was built on. Cook was initially committed to play at Florida during his recruitment, but flipped his commitment to the Seminoles a month before signing day. He understands just what this game is about.

“It’s big," Cook said. "Like it’s always said about the Miami rivalry, it’s bigger than us. This rivalry has been going on before I was even thought about. We just got to keep the legacy going. We have to have a good week of practice. It’s Florida and Florida State. It doesn’t get better than this.”

Jimbo Fisher is currently 4-1 against the Gators during his time as Florida State's head coach including 2-0 on the road. Florida State has outscored Florida 58-14 during their last two trips to Gainesville. While the Seminoles have been a big part of the national college football landscape over the past few years the Gators had really fallen off.

Now Florida is back in the national picture and the Seminoles have a chance to play spoiler. As big as this game is for bragging rights in the state of Florida, it's even bigger with the implications on the line.

"It's because of bowl implications, what's going on, where you could end up," Fisher said. "Hey, they still got a shot to get in a playoff situation. I mean, they got a great win against us, got Alabama coming up... On that side, I mean, everything is going on, they got a lot to play for, we got a lot to play for. 10 win season,... New Years Six and that's what that game should be, that's what that game should be."
