Florida State Defeats VCU 76-1

Florida State held on late against VCU in Atlanta.

Florida State had to hold on after blowing an 11 point halftime lead, but defeated VCU 76-71 in Atlanta. The Seminoles improved to 5-2 on the season. It is the first big out of conference win for the Seminoles this season.

Florida State built a big lead in the first half, but the Seminoles struggled to start the second half and VCU was able to crawl their way back into the game. VCU took their first lead of the game with 6:03 left to play, but Florida State responded well making 5 of their final 8 shots, and all 6 free throws down the stretch. 

Xavier Rathan-Mayes led the Seminoles with 23 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and just 2 turnovers. True freshman Malik Beasley was the only other Seminole in double digits with 10 points. Eight Florida State players scored, with 6 scoring 6 or more points. 

Florida State shot 46.8-percent from the field, 38.5-percent from three, and 81.3-percent from the free throw line.

Center Boris Bojanovsky led the Seminoles with 5 blocks to go with his 6 points and 7 rebounds. Florida State outrebounded the Rams 38-30.

The Seminoles will next play at home against Southeast Louisiana on December 13th at 3 PM.
