Mixed Signals Out Of Daytona

There have been rumors going around that All-America quarterback Xavier Lee committed to Florida State. However, after talking with Lee and his coach (Mark Beach), that rumor has been confirmed false. However, TheTerritory has some interesting quotes from both the coach and the player.

According to Coach Beach, the 6-foot-3 and 210 two-time Sunshine Sports Player of the Year has Auburn and Florida State in the lead.

"He has Florida State and Auburn on top," Coach Mark Beach said. "He also likes Ohio State. Now that Oklahoma got a commitment from Bomar I don't think he'll be considering them. Xavier will probably visit Ohio State in the fall so he can see one of their games. He's also going to go check out the Auburn/Southern Cal game."

Speaking of commitments what affect will Drew Weatherford's commitment to Florida State yield?

"That commitment doesn't bother him a bit," Beach said.

There's been concern about Lee's academics. According to his coach the Seabreeze quarterback is improving on that front lately.

"Right now he has a grade point average of 2.7 and he plans on taking the test again in the fall," he said. "The last semester of classes he earned a grade point average of 3.0. Coach Lilly (FSU) called me the other day for his new transcripts."

When TheTerritory contacted Lee, the picture looked somewhat different.

"Florida State is being bumped down my list," Lee said. "I called them a few weeks ago and left a message and they never called me back."

The commitment of Weatherford also seemed to concern him somewhat.

"It makes me want to turn my head," he said. "I'm going to start looking at other teams."

Note: According NCAA rules, college coaches aren't allowed to contact or return calls to prospects until September 1st.
