Orlando Opening: Top FSU Target Performers

There were a number of top Florida State targets at the Orlando Opening regional. Here is how they performed.

There were a number of top Florida State targets at the Orlando Opening regional on Sunday. Unfortunately three of the best were sidelined with injuries. 4-star Florida State wide receiver commit D.J. Matthews was the best receiver there until his legs started cramping up, and he had to stop working out. Matthews participated in the Adidas 7-on-7 tournament on Saturday, and that likely played a big part in that issue.

His teammate 4-star defensive back Shaun Wade did not participate after pulling his hamstring during the Adidas 7-on-7 tournament.

4-star defensive end Joshua Kaindoh was the best looking defensive line prospect there. Physically he stood out immediately. He pulled his hamstring during position drills and was not able to compete in the 1-on-1s.

3-star Florida State linebacker commit Bradley Jennings Jr. had a really good day. That's not a setting that normally favors inside linebackers, but he showed good athleticism and understanding of what he was supposed to be doing. He came away with an interception in the 7-on-7 portion of the drills.

4-star quarterback N'Kosi Perry had an up and down day, but this isn't the type of setting that best showcases his ability. He needs to be more consistent with his ball placement, but showed good arm strength. He was one of the Top-5 quarterbacks at the camp.

3-star Florida State legacy DeCalon Brooks isn't physically imposing, but he gets the job done. If he comes to Florida State he could be very good in the star or money roles.

A couple of 2018 defensive linemen stood out. Defensive end Stacy Kirby and defensive tackle Taron Vincent. Kirby looked very good in position drill and 1-on-1s. He was named to the final-5 defensive linemen. Vincent was also named to the final-5 defensive linemen, and he dominated every rep he took.

Local 2018 prospects Jalen Norwood and Amari Gainer both looked good during position drills. Norwood worked with the defensive backs, but he likely projects as a linebacker at the next level. Amari Gainer is a very long and athletic linebacker prospect. He was very fluid during drills.

2018 running backs Lorenzo Lingard and Justin Watkins stood out among the running back groups. Both were very fluid and caught the ball well out of the backfield.
