Griffin (Ga.) 2019 defensive tackle Tru Thompson got his first offer from Florida State during the Jimbo Fisher camp last summer. Thompson dominated the camp, and the Seminole coaching staff offered him on the spot.
Thompson came back to Florida State for Junior day on Saturday, and came away just as impressed as he was during his first visit.
"It was a good visit," Thompson said. "It was a good visit because I got to see everything again. Not like I did during the summer. Some parts were closed I didn't get to see because of construction. I can see that they're really building up the place."
He has built a really good relationship with Florida State defensive tackle coach Odell Haggins.
"I really like coach Odell," Thompson said. "You can tell that he has a passion for the game and he tells you the truth. So by the time I get here he's going to tell me the truth. The hard truth. I like when coaches are on me. I actually like that. I know he's going to be on my butt making me better..."
Coach Haggins is unique among most coaches because he was an All-American at Florida State at the position he has coached for the Seminoles for the last 20 years. Thompson knows just how much experience coach Haggins has to offer.
"It would be nice because I get to see the experience that he has," Thompson said. "He actually knows the game at his position. He's coached at his position for 20 years. That's a long time. I've only been playing football for two or three years. So it's like he has all the experience that he can show me. It would be a great thing coming down here. It just shows you everything that he knew. Just showing me what I'm doing wrong because he knows from experience."
Thompson measured in at 5-foot-11, 330-pounds during the visit.
