4-star WR DJ Matthews Chops It Up At FSU

DJ Matthews has been to Florida State so many times he's not a normal visitor any more.

Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian 4-star wide receiver D.J. Matthews has been committed to Florida State almost two years now. He's visited Florida State so much that he knows more about the school than some of the incoming players.

Today he got to spend a lot of time with the Florida State Seminoles coaching staff.

"Actually today I spent more time in the office with coach Jimbo and coach Dawsey," Matthews said. "Talking, chatting with them, chopping it up."

Matthews really enjoyed the time that he was able to spend with Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher.

"Jimbo asked me how I've been," Matthews said. "I haven't seen Jimbo in a while so he was pretty excited to see me. He asked me how my family was doing. He's ready for me to get here as well."

Florida State recently built a new players lounge and Matthews took advantage of it on his visit.

"I actually spent like an hour and a half in the players lounge today," Matthews said. "I kind of skipped junior day. It was fun. Me and coach Dawsey playing hoops in there."

Matthews has been Florida State's most solid commit in the 2017 class, and the coaches are ready to get him on campus.

"They're just excited for me to get here," Matthews said. "They're just excited."

That will happen sooner rather than later as Matthews plans to early enroll at Florida State in January. Before that happens though he going to do everything he can to bring some big time players with him.

"2017, we've actually got some ballers in this class," Matthews said. "Hopefully we look forward to get Jamyest (Williams) in here, (Stanford) Samuels, Shaun Wade, Rasheed Martin, Bradley Jennings Jr. We're trying to build the class up strong."

Matthews is really close with 4-star Ohio State defensive back commit Shaun Wade, who last weekend said that he wanted to play with Matthews in college. Matthews has been in his ear about the Seminoles.

"Y'all just be on the lookout for that one," Matthews said. "I won't speak on that one too much."

He's not pushing Wade too hard to come to Florida State because he wants him to make his own decision.

"Not quite," Matthews said. "I honestly want everyone to make their decision. I want them to be proud about their decision. I also just let Shaun (Wade) know that he's wanted at Florida State. Not just wanted, but he's needed here."

Matthews is the No. 15 receiver and No. 106 player overall in the 2017 Scout 300.
