Florida State defeated St. Johns 16-4 on Friday. Senior Mike Compton got the win. He improves to 2-1 on the season.
The game went quickly for the first three innings with both teams combining for just one base runner and no hits. The flood gates opened for the Seminoles in the fourth inning. Dylan Busby came through with a 2-RBI single, and Ben DeLuzio followed it up with a 2-RBI double to put the Seminoles ahead 4-0.
Florida State picked up right where they left off in the fifth with the Seminoles scoring 10 runs. Taylor Walls started the inning off with a 2-run home run. It was the first home run of his career. Gage West, Dylan Busby, Darren Miller, John Sansone, and Jackson Lueck all came through with RBIs in the inning.
The Seminoles would add another run in the seventh inning on the third error of the game for St. Johns. They would also pick one up in the eighth on a Truluck sacrifice fly to push the Florida State lead to 16-4.
With the offensive production, starter Mike Compton was able to cruise through the first six innings. He gave up 2 runs on 4 hits with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. It was his third straight outing of giving up 2 runs or less.
St. Johns were able to pick up two more runs as Taylor Blatch made his first appearance of the season. He was pulled after loading the bases after giving up the two runs. Ronnie Ramirez came in and got the Seminoles out of the jam. He blew through the eighth as well. Andy Ward came in to close the game out in the ninth.
Florida State improves to 7-2 on the season. They will continue the series with St. Johns tomorrow at 6 PM.
