Florida State didn't take advantage of their chances early and fell to rival Florida 6-0 in Gainesville. Starter Tyler Holton falls to 0-2 on the season.
The Seminoles had plenty of chances to get things going on offense. They had at least one runner on in every inning except the fifth, but a combination of poor base running, double plays, and a lack of timely hitting prevented Florida State from breaking through. Florida State had multiple runners on in four of the nine innings.
Florida got on the board in the second with a solo home run, and then again in the third with a 2-run home run to make it 3-0. Holton was pulled after one batter in the fourth inning for Chase Haney, but the Gators would get to him and added another run in the fourth. Three of the four runs that Holton allowed were earned.
The Gators got two more runs in the fifth off Matthew Kinney. Jim Voyles replaced Kinney with 1 out in the fifth, and Voyles was replaced by Alec Byrd with one out in the sixth. Byrd threw 1.2 innings, and didn't allow a run. Cobi Johnson pitched a scoreless frame in the eighth.
The Seminoles fall to 13-4 on the season. They will travel to Pittsburgh for a three game series starting on Friday at 6 PM.
