Florida State defeated Pittsburgh 17-4 and earned their first road ACC win of the season. The Seminoles are making their first trip to Pittsburgh since the Panthers joined the ACC.
The Seminoles started off the game quickly with 4 runs in the top of the first. Dylan Busby, Gage West, Quincy Neiporte, and Darren Miller all came through with RBIs for the Seminoles.
Pittsburgh got on the board in the third with an RBI sac fly, but Florida State extended their lead in the top of the fourth. Sacrifice flies by Ben DeLuzio and Matt Henderson got the Seminoles on the board once again.
The Panthers closed the game to 6-4 with a 3-RBI home run from Aaron Schnurbusch. They would not score again.
Florida State came back with 4 runs in the sixth inning. Matt Henderson picked up his second RBI of the game with a single, and John Sansone drove in 3 runs with an RBI single to make it 10-4.
The Seminoles extended their lead to 15-4 with a five run inning in the seventh. John Sansone came through with 3 more RBIs on an Pittsburgh error. Dylan Busby stole home on a double steal with Darren Miller, and DeLuzio picked up his second RBI of the game with a double.
Sansone continued his exceptional day with 2 more RBIs on a double in the ninth to make it 17-4. Sansone now has an incredible 29 RBIs in 18 games.
Starter Mike Compton went 4.1 innings, and gave up 4 runs on 5 hits with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. Alec Byrd, Matthew Kinney, and Ed Voyles pitched 4.2 scoreless frames to end the game.
The Seminoles improved to 14-4 on the season and 4-0 in the ACC. Florida State will play Pittsburgh Saturday at 3 PM to continue the series.
