FSU Downs UCF 7-2

Florida State got back on track with a win against Central Florida.

Florida State defeated Central Florida 7-2 in the first of a two game midweek series. Jim Voyles moves to 2-0 on the season.

The Knights got on the board first in the top of the second after catcher Cal Raleigh overthrew a pickoff attempt at second.

The Seminoles came right back with a run in the bottom half of the inning on a Ben DeLuzio RBI single to make it 1-1.

Central Florida took the lead right back on the very first batter of the third inning after a solo home run.

Florida State responded once again, this time for good, with a 5-run third. John Sansone got things going with an RBI double, and Cal Raleigh followed that up with a 2-RBI single. Quincy Neiporte came through with an RBI groundout, and DeLuzio came through with his second RBI single of the game to make it 6-2 Florida State.

The Seminoles added one more run in the seventh on Neiporte's sacrifice fly, his second RBI of the game, to make it 7-2 Seminoles.

Starter Tyler Holton went just two innings, but gave up 2 runs, 1 earned, on 3 hits with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. Jim Voyles replaced him in the third, and threw five innings of shutout baseball. He gave up no runs on 1 hit and 1 walk with 3 strikeouts.

Matthew Kinney pitched a scoreless eighth, and Chase Haney came in and closed the game out with a scoreless ninth.

Florida State improved to 16-5 overall, and remain 5-1 in the ACC. The Seminoles will host UCF again on Wednesday at 4 PM to conclude the midweek series.
