Hot Start Lifts FSU Over NCST 8-5

Florida State got off to a quick start and held on to take down No. 13 NC State.

No. 11 Florida State defeated No. 13 NC State 8-5 on Friday. Matthew Kinney gets the win and improves to 2-0 on the season.

The Seminoles struck early with 6 runs in the bottom of the first. Dylan Busby came through with an RBI single, and a throwing error allowed another run to score to make it 2-0. The Seminoles loaded the bases and NC State pulled their starter, but it didn't make a difference as Jackson Lueck knocked a 3-RBI double off the wall in left. Taylor Walls added another run on an RBI single, and Florida State led 6-0.

NC State would chip away at the lead starting with a run in the third, three in the fourth, and one in the sixth to make it 6-5. Starter Mike Compton got pulled with one out in the fourth for Jim Voyles. Matthew Kinney came in for Voyles in the sixth, and threw 2.1 scoreless innings.

Cal Raleigh would put the game away for the Seminoles with a monster home run to left to make it 8-5 in the seventh. It was the third home run of the season for him.

Tyler Warmoth collected his first save of the season with three strikeouts in the ninth.

Florida State improves to 18-5 overall and 6-1 in the ACC. The Seminoles will host NC State again at Noon on Saturday. The final game of the series will take place 45 minutes after the end of game two.
