After taking big classes in two of the last three years, Florida State will have a small class coming in this cycle, taking anywhere from 17 to 20 recruits for the 2017 class. The Seminoles are already off to a hot start with eight commitments, seven of which are currently rated as Top-300 players. That leaves anywhere from 9 to 12 spots remaining for this cycle. Here is who the Seminoles have on board, and the top targets at each position.
Florida State landed a commitment from 4-star Bailey Hockman on Sunday, and are likely done at the position unless some of the top targets fall through. If that does happen 3-star quarterback Jacob Free could pick up an offer.
4-star running back Zaquandre White committed to Florida State over a year ago, and hasn't wavered in his commitment to the Seminoles. Florida State would like to bring in at least one more, maybe two, this cycle and the leading candidates are 4-star running backs D'Andre Swift and Khalan Laborn. Laborn has visited Florida State a couple times, including once in February for Junior Day. Swift has yet to visit Florida State, but that visit is expected to come very soon.
Florida State already has a commitment from one of the top slot receivers in the country in D.J. Matthews. The Seminoles are currently looking for a big wide receiver to pair him with. 4-star receivers Tee Higgins, Jerry Jeudy, Donovan Peoples-Jones are the top targets, but all three are long shots at this point.
The Seminoles don't currently have any offensive line commitments, but are chasing some very big fish at the position. They are after 5-star guard Tedarrell Slaton, 5-star tackle Calvin Ashley (Auburn commit), 4-star tackle Alex Leatherwood (Alabama commit), and 4-star tackle Tony Gray among others.
Florida State has two defensive tackle commits already. 4-stars Cory Durden and Ja'len Parks are cousins and teammates for Newberry High School, and both have committed to Florida State. The Seminoles are looking to take one more if it's the right one, and 5-star Marvin Wilson, 4-star Akial Byers, and 3-star Dalyn Wade-Perry are the top three targets for Florida State going forward.
Florida State's number one target, 4-star Robert Beal, has visited Tallahassee multiple times now, and will be coming in for another visit very soon. 4-star Logan Rudolph is listed as a tight end, but Florida State is recruiting him for defense. Rudolph is one of the top targets for the Seminoles along with 3-star Tre Lawson, who is also high on the list. 4-stars Malik Herring and LaBryan Ray are also on the radar.
Florida State already has two linebacker commitments in 5-star VanDarius Cowan and 3-star Bradley Jennings Jr.. They're looking for one more here, and 4-star Walter Grant is at the top of the board. Grant is expected to make a trip to Tallahassee sometime this spring. 3-star legacy DeCalon Brooks is another player high on the list for the Seminoles. Brooks listed as a linebacker, but it's unclear which position he will play at the next level.
Florida State has a commitment from 4-star safety Cyrus Fagan. The Seminoles are looking to take three or four more here with the top target on the board being Stanford Samuels III. 4-stars Maleik Gray, Shaun Wade, Jamyest Williams, Deon Jones, Latavious Brini, DeeJay Dallas and Daniel Wright are all high on the board for the Seminoles.
Florida State brought in a punter and a kicker last season, but are in the market for a long snapper this cycle. The Seminoles have offered Thomas Fletcher from IMG Academy.
