Saturday Practice Report

The 12th-ranked Florida State football team held a 24-period practice session on Saturday morning in preparation for the 2003 season. The weather was nice, but the Seminoles had to battle the heat and extreme humidity in their fourth day of workouts.

"I think we had a good practice out there today," said head coach Bobby Bowden. "We've made progress everyday and the effort has been really good considering how hot it was. We've come about as far as we can in four days, but we still have a ways to go."

For the offense, redshirt freshman Lorenzo Booker had several nice runs out of the backfield, while freshman wide receiver Chris Davis had some nice moves to get open and made some great catches in one-on-one drills against the defensive backs.

Senior cornerback Stanford Samuels shined for the defense as he recorded two interceptions on the day, while Sophomore Pat Watkins had a pick as well during passing drills.

"He (Stanford) is very capable of playing like that," continued Bowden. "The defense returns everybody and has the experience back where you expect to have a good defense."

The Florida State football team will host Fan Day on Sunday, August 10th at the Leon County Civic Center from 2:00-4:00 p.m., admission is free.
