FSU Walks Off For 7-6 Win Against Notre Dame

Florida State needed extras to beat Notre Dame on Saturday night.

Florida State walked off a 7-6 victory over Notre Dame in twelve innings. Chase Haney picked up the win. He improves to 4-0 on the season.

Notre Dame Started things off with two runs in the top of the first. Ricky Sanchez came through with a 2-RBI double off the screen in right.

The Seminoles fired back with three runs in the third. Cal Raleigh crushed his third home run in the last four games, and his tenth of the season to lead things off. Jackson Lueck continued to be a clutch hitter with an RBI single to tie the game, and Matt Henderson brought in another on with a double play groundout to give Florida State a 3-2 lead.

The Irish tied the game on a Ricky Sanchez home run to left, his third RBI of the game, but the tie didn't last long as Quincy Neiporte came through with a solo home run off the scoreboard in left to give the Seminoles a 4-3 lead.

Drew Carlson's night came to a close with one out in the seventh. He gave up 4 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks with 7 strikeouts. Matthew Kinney came in to replace him. Two batters later Notre Dame tied the game once again with a run on a Jake Shepski fielders choice. The Seminoles tried to turn two to get out of the inning, but the relay throw came in late. 

Florida State fired back in the bottom half of the inning, loading the bases for Quincy Neiporte. Neiporte came through with a 2-RBI single, his third RBI of the game, to give the Seminoles a 6-4 lead. 

Ed Voyles came in and pitched a scoreless eighth. Tyler Warmoth replaced him to close out the game in the ninth, but struggled to find control. A 2-run home run by Jake Shepski with two outs tied the game at 6. 

Florida State put two runners on in the bottom of the ninth, but failed to take advantage sending the game to extra innings. 

Warmoth was pulled with two on and one out in the top of the eleventh inning by Alec Byrd. Warmoth gave up 4 runs in 2.1 innings on 2 hits with 1 strikout. Byrd got the final two outs of the inning.

Chase Haney came in to pitch the twelfth. Haney allowed two runners on, but kept the Irish off the board. 

Quincy Neiporte led off the twelfth with a double, and Jackson Lueck hit a RBI double to win the game 7-6.

Florida State has scored 19 runs through the first two games, and Raleigh and Neiporte have accounted for 12 of them. Neiporte's batting average has jumped up .33 in the two games against the Irish. John Sansone had four hits for the Seminoles.

Florida State improves to 27-11 overall, and improves to 12-4 in the ACC. The Seminoles will go for the sweep against Notre Dame on Sunday at 1 PM.
