FSU 2016 NFL Draft Projections

The 2016 NFL draft is upon us, and here is how the former Seminoles project.

It's going to be a light draft by Florida State's recent standards, with only two to four players expected to be drafted. For most schools that would be considered quite good, but after a three year run where 29 Seminoles were drafted, the perspective is skewed.

DB Jalen Ramsey

Projected Round: 1

Teams That Could Take Him: Chargers, Cowboys, Jaguars, and Ravens

Less than a month ago people were talking about Ramsey being the potential No. 1 draft pick, but after trades for the first and second picks, Ramsey could land anywhere between third and sixth. The Cowboys are the team that Ramsey grew up rooting for, and they have a serious need in the secondary. Even if none of those teams take him, Ramsey will not fall out of the Top-10.

K Roberto Aguayo

Projected Round: 3-4

Teams That Could Take Him: Too many to list

With the NFL's new extra point rule it might be a good idea to have a kicker that never missed inside of 40 yards during his college career. Aguayo is the draft's best kicker, and nearly every team out there could use him.

LB Terrance Smith

Projected Round: 6-7

Teams That Have Shown Interest: Cowboys, Falcons, Redskins, and Vikings

Smith would be much higher on many draft boards if he hadn't struggled with injuries during his Florida State career. He's a plus athlete with good size that understands the game. Unfortunately, nagging ankle injuries his junior and senior years limited his ability to put together a solid tape. Smith has met with the four teams listed above, and could go as early as the sixth round.

 DT Nile Lawrence-Stample

Projected Round: 6-UDFA

Teams That Have Shown Interest: Eagles

Lawrence-Stample is a workhorse defensive tackle, that doesn't have great size. He will likely get picked up by some team late in the draft, and will compete for a spot on the teams roster. He will definitely stick around the NFL as a practice squad player if he doesn't.

DT Giorgio Newberry

Projected Round: 7-UDFA

Newberry's size and athleticism is impressive, but the film is just lacking for him. He was a situational player during his final year at Florida State, and doesn't really have a position at the next level. A team could take a chance on him with their final pick to try and mold him into something.

LB Reggie Northrup, S Lamarcus Brutus, and CB Javien Elliot

Projected Round: UDFA

These players will not be drafted, but will get tryouts with teams. All three will likely be on practice squads at the start of the NFL season.
