Florida State evened the series with Clemson with a 11-2 victory on Sunday. Starter Drew Carlton improved to 5-2 on the season.
Clemson got on the board in the bottom of the first on a Reed Rohlman RBI double taking a 1-0 lead. Florida State tied the game at one in the top of the second on a Ben DeLuzio RBI single.
The Seminoles took their first lead of the series in the top of the third. John Sansone drove in a run on a sacrifice fly, and Quincy Neiporte came through with an RBI single to make it 3-1 Florida State.
Rohlman came through for the Tigers once again in the third. He cut the Florida State lead to 3-2 with an RBI single.
The Seminoles extended their lead to 5-2 in the top of the fourth inning. Taylor Walls drove in two runs with a single to left center. Florida State continued to pile on in the top of the fifth with four more runs. DeLuzio came through again with a 2-RBI single. Florida State executed a double steal allowing Donovan Petrey to steal home, and Stephen Wells Jr. drove in a run with an RBI fielders choice to make it 9-2.
John Sansone added to the Florida State lead in the eighth inning with a solo home run over the center field wall. It was his sixth home run of the season.
Carlton turned in an excellent effort on the mound, but was finally pulled with 2 on and 1 out in the eighth inning for Alec Byrd. Byrd got the next two batters out to end the inning. Carlton went 7.1 innings giving up 2 runs on 7 hits and 4 walks with 4 strikeouts. It was easily his best performance of the season, and something the Seminole pitching staff needed.
Taylor Walls came through with his third RBI of the day on an RBI single in the ninth to make it 11-2 Florida State.
Ed Voyles came in to close the game out in the bottom of the ninth for the Seminoles.
Florida State improves to 29-12 on the season, and 14-5 in the ACC. The Seminoles will look to take the series on Monday at 7 PM.
