FSU Bounces Back With 4-3 Win Over Duke

Florida State avoided the sweep by Duke with a 4-3 win on Sunday.

Florida State bounced back win a 4-3 win against Duke on Sunday to avoid being swept. Jim Voyles picked up the win for the Seminoles.

Duke got on the board first in the bottom of the second. An error by the Seminoles cost them after an RBI double by Herron.

Florida State tied the game at 1 in the fourth on an RBI sacrifice fly by Ben DeLuzio. The Blue Devils answered with a run of their own on a solo home run by Zyla in the bottom half of the inning to take a 2-1 lead.

Starter Ed Voyles was replaced by his brother Jim with 2 outs in the fourth inning. Ed Voyles went 3.2 innings and gave up 2 runs, 1 earned, on 5 hits and 2 walks with 2 strikeouts.

Taylor Walls tied the game in the fifth on a solo home run to right field, his sixth of the season. The Seminoles took a 3-2 lead lated in the inning on a Dylan Busby RBI single. 

Duke tied the game at three in the bottom half of the fifth on an RBI groundout by Smiciklas. The Seminoles answered right back with a run in the top of the sixth to take a 4-3 lead. John Sansone came through with an RBI double. 

Jim Voyles was relieved by Chase Haney at the start of the seventh inning. Jim Voyles went 2.1 innings while giving up 1 run on 1 hit. Haney got the first two outs of the inning, but walked the third batter he faced and was relieved by Alec Byrd.

Byrd got the Seminoles out of the seventh, but was pulled with 1 on and 1 out in the eighth for Tyler Warmoth. Warmoth got Florida State out of the eighth and threw a scoreless ninth inning to pick up the save.

Florida State improves to 33-16 on the season and 15-7 in the ACC. The Seminoles will travel to Stetson for a midweek game starting at 5 PM on May 17.
