FSU On The Hosting Bubble

Florida State's recent slide has them out of national seed range and on the bubble for a regional host site.

Florida State has dropped their last three ACC series, and the polls have noticed. The Seminoles are currently No. 14 in Baseball America's Top-25 and No. 16 in D1Baseball's Top-25. The Seminoles are No. 16 in the RPI rankings.

Baseball America and D1Baseball has both put out regional projections, and the two are split on whether Florida State will host. The Seminoles get a host seed in D1Baseball's projections, but are paired with the Gainesville super regional. Florida defeated Florida State in all three games this season. Last season the Gators ended Florida State's season with a pair of dominating wins in the Gainesville super regional. In the Tallahassee regional Florida State would host Cal State Fullerton, Mercer, and South Alabama.

Baseball America has Florida State as a two seed in the New Orleans regional that would be hosted by Tulane. Minnesota and Seattle are the other teams projected into this regional. The New Orleans regional is paired with the Louisville regional. Florida State took two of three from the Cardinals in Tallahassee earlier this season. Avoiding Florida in a super regional would be in Florida State's interest, but playing well on the road has not been Florida State's strong suit this season. The Seminoles are currently 7-9 on the road and 0-1 in neutral site games.

If Florida State's options are hosting a regional and traveling to Gainesville for a super regional or traveling for a regional and avoiding Florida, the Seminoles may be better off with the latter option. It won't matter either way unless the team starts playing better.
