Florida State opened up the ACC Tournament with a 7-3 win over No. 13 NC State. Reliever Chase Haney picked up the win.
John Sansone got things started for the Seminoles with a mammoth home run over the blue monster in left field giving the Seminoles a 1-0 lead. The lead was short lived, however, as NC State struck back for a run in the second, third and fourth innings to take a 3-1 lead.
Starter Drew Carlton threw five innings for the Seminoles. He gave up 3 runs on 4 hits with 1 walk and 2 strikeouts. He was relieved at the start of the sixth inning by Ed Voyles.
Florida State had multiple chances to get back into the game, but couldn't take advantage until the bottom of the sixth inning. Dylan Busby came through for the Seminoles with a 2-RBI single to tie the game at 3.
Voyles got into some trouble in the top of the seventh, and Matthew Kinney came in for Ed Voyles with two outs and 2 on. Kinney got the last out of the inning. Chase Haney came in for Kinney at the start of the eighth inning, and held the Wolfpack scoreless.
The Seminoles took the lead and broke the game open in eighth inning. Steven Wells Jr. gave Florida State a 4-3 lead on a sacrifice fly, and Taylor Walls came through with a 2-RBI single to right field. Dylan Busby concluded the scoring on a wild pitch to give the Seminoles a 7-3 lead.
Tyler Warmouth came in and closed out NC State in the ninth inning.
Florida State improves 35-19 overall and 17-10 in the ACC. They will play Georgia Tech on Thursday at 3 PM.
