Florida State eliminated Michigan with a 1-0 victory in the loser's bracket of the Women's College World series. The Seminoles had been 0-2 against the Wolverines this season.
It was a battle of excellent pitching between Florida State's Jessica Burroughs and Michigan's Megan Betsa. Burroughs gave up two hits with five strikeouts and two walks while Betsa gave up just one hit with four walks and four strikeouts. The difference between the two was one pitch.
With two outs and a 2-2 count with the bases loaded in the third inning Betsa threw a ball in the dirt that got by the Michigan catcher. Morgan Klaevemann raced home and beat the throw to give the Seminoles a 1-0 lead.
Florida State will move on to play Auburn in the semifinals of the Women's College World Series. They are 1-1 against the Tigers this season, but will need two wins in order to make the finals after fighting their way out of the loser's bracket. The first game against Auburn will begin at 6 PM. If necessary the second game will be on Monday, June 6 at 7 PM.
